D&A lifted the 2016 County Team Championship at Douglas Park Golf Club for the first time today in 9 years. Elaine Farquharson-Black (Deeside), the first Scot to captain the GB and I Curtis Cup team since Belle Robertson in 1976, played in two Curtis Cup and two Vagliano Trophy matches during her playing career. This will be only the second Curtis Cup match to be played in Ireland. You enjoyed so many career highlights, winning the Ladies British Stroke Play (four times), Scottish Ladies Amateur (seven times) and the Dunbartonshire and Argyll Ladies (10 times), to your various international team triumphs, including playing in four Curtis Cups. Four years ago, at Nairn Golf Club, GB and I came from behind to win the trophy after an excellent match, watched by big galleries. D&A had 2 win and one defeat the same as Renfrewshire but won on a count back of match points gained.

RENFREWSHIRE LADIES COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION held their AGM last night. Renfrewshire who needed a halved match with Ayrshire to secure a win could only look on in despair as young Louise Duncan (West Kilbride) finished with 3 birdies to win on the 18th against Jennifer Rankine (Haggs Castle) . “The Scottish Golf Union is continually aiming to add value to being a member of an affiliated golf club and our partnership with Castle Stuart, a world renowned golf course, highlights our objective. The process to recruit a new Board of Directors for Scottish Golf Limited began in May, advertising as widely as possible for applicants for these vital roles through an independent HR consultancy. There was the usual stalls for all sorts of things and in one of the places, I took part in a putting competition and for holing three putts in a row – got a head cover – they did take a picture and you could choose whatever background – the US OPEN or St. Andrews – I chose the Scottish venue! I started off golf there and the family farm was in Southend. We had some family and friends staying as well so that was nice and obviously we had a European winner in England’s Danny Willett. Many congratulations go to all the team and we wish them well at the County Finals in September in Aboyne.
